SIJ is excited about beginning a new ministry for young men in high school. The new ministry is called the Knights of the Holy Temple. The Knights are a fraternity of young men who will receive training as altar servers at Mass and Sacred Liturgies at St Isaac Jogues. The Knights strongly encourage its members to nurture reverence and devotion to Jesus Christ in the Blessed Sacrament.
While service at Mass is a primary apostolate of the Knights, this ministry offers much more for its members. The Knights encourage its members to grow in virtue and to learn how to become Catholic gentleman. The Knights help members gain a deeper understanding of the Catholic Church, to commit to properly live out our Catholic faith and to serve the poor in our community.
The Knights hold monthly meetings that are run by the young men who are its members. Within the guidelines of the Knights of the Holy Temple, all activities are decided by the members of the Knights. The Knights will develop friendships with each other and have opportunities for Christian formation. Engaging with Knights at other Catholic parishes in the Diocese of Joliet and outside our Diocese in service and in social settings will also provide opportunities for friendship and fun.
Father Burke, Deacon Mike and Seminarian Andrew will help with the ministry and supporting our young men. While the Knights is a ministry focused on young men in high school, we would also like to invite 8th grade boys in our Parish who may be interested in joining the Knights during high school. In addition, we will have one or more chaplains who will be available to provide spiritual guidance to the Knights. There will also be a few fathers who have expressed interest in volunteering to support the Knights by providing guidance at meetings and at support at all activities. Our goal is to begin training our young men to serve at mass for our upcoming Triduum during Holy Week.
Please consider joining us on March 9th after the noon mass in the St. Isaac Jogues Fireplace Room for an initial meeting to learn more about the Knights of the Holy Temple. There will be a light lunch offered. During this first meeting, we will provide more details about the Knights of the Holy Temple and answer any questions. We anticipate having other young men present who have participated in the Knights at other parishes in the past who can share their experiences and answer questions. We also hope to have some fathers present at our first meeting who have had sons who participated in the Knights at other parishes in the past.
Please RSVP below by February 28th so that we can plan for lunch.
